Another motherhood movie from Almodovar

Very strong performances by the lead cast and a touching but also thrilling story makes this movie a joy to watch.

The best attribute of this film is the emotions of the characters and how there is never a point where you wonder why a character feels or acts the way they do, they really come across as real people. The writing fleshes out the characters in a convincing way and manages to maneuver a sensitive and complicated subject matter with commendable grace. Combine this with a striking palette and a distinct directorial style, it is eye candy.

Almodovar's fever dream tone he seems to adore is also present here, while not that pronounced as for example "All About My Mother". I liked this a lot better, I believe overall it is a more effective ode to motherhood.

Highly recommend this, Almodovar really showed his talent and weirdness with this one too.
