- "What is this? Why is this here?"

Obviously, this is just a small site for me to record my general opinion about films I've watched.

Obviously×2, I am aware nobody really asked nor cared about my enlightened takes on the subject.

If you are - for some reason - still curious though, it came about from my dissatisfaction with Letterboxd and mostly its community. I never used the website as a faux social media anyways, instead opting to use it as a journal.

So, what is the point of just being a "renter" of an account on someone else's site, when your have the ability to just make your own? Maybe it's just me, but something about having your own personal site for this kind of stuff makes it more endearing for me.

See, in every "social media" site, especially sites like Letterboxd, where certain people gravitate more heavily than others, a community forms organically. When communities form, so do social queues, inside jokes, memes and followers/followings. That's not bad of course, it's just human nature. In my personal opinion though, the actual movie-reviewing side of the equilibrium has lightened significantly.

It's not even that I write controversial stuff, but the fact that you are - within reason - free to write what you want on your own webpage just hits different. I also find removing additional distractions like this keeps more of the originality on my small reviews anyways. This is something I am writing basically only for me, so why not optimise it as much as possible?

Thus, I made this simple site. The need of another social media site is something more than unnecessary in my life - most people probably would say the same.

- "But wait! Isn't there a large community on Letterboxd?" - some might argue.

This is the wrong thing to concentrate on. Yet another source of FOMO. The internet is fake, it isn't real life. You are not missing out on friends or experiences when you choose to not expose yourself to everything at all times. Quite the contrary.

Nonetheless, if you happen to enjoy these reviews I write into the void, you are welcome to browse to your heart's content.
